Nasr City Public Library, affiliated with the Misr Society for Culture and Community Development, organized an awareness seminar on plasma in cooperation with Grifols Egypt for Plasma Derivatives (GEPD), as part of the library’s commitment to promoting health awareness and enhancing medical culture within the community. The seminar highlighted the importance of plasma and its vital role in treating many diseases, with a focus on the concept of plasma donation and its direct impact on saving patients’ lives, especially children suffering from hemophilia. The event also addressed and corrected several misconceptions related to plasma donation, while introducing the national project for the collection and manufacturing of plasma derivatives, and emphasizing the importance of achieving self-sufficiency in vital medicines—foremost among them albumin—within Egypt. The session further explained the mechanisms for storing plasma at extremely low temperatures in specialized freezers, and underscored the necessity of having well-equipped laboratories, storage facilities, and specialized manufacturing plants. In addition, the seminar included a presentation on diseases treated with plasma, such as kidney failure, liver failure, hemophilia, bleeding disorders, as well as immune and liver diseases. A pleasant surprise was offered to attendees, as a free medical check-up was provided in support of health initiatives and community service. The seminar was led and presented by Dr. Ahmed El-Tawansi, Director of the Nasr City Plasma Donation Center and Oncology Surgeon, with the participation of Ms. Esraa Salah El-Din, Donor Relations Officer at the Nasr City Center, along with members of the center’s awareness team. The event was organized under the supervision of Mr. Emad Adib, Senior Information Technology Specialist at Nasr City Public Library. The event also witnessed notable media coverage, as the seminar was filmed for Cairo Channel – Egyptian Television, to be aired on the program Sabah Al-Qahira, directed by Reham Ibrahim. In this context, Mr. Hany Abdel-Mored, Director of Nasr City Public Library, stated that organizing this seminar stems from the library’s belief in its societal role in spreading health awareness, stressing the importance of partnerships with national institutions to support health and awareness initiatives that contribute to protecting society and enhancing quality of life.
