The American Corner at Maadi Public Library ESCD:

•The American Corner at the Maadi Public Library was established on March 17th, 2009 through an MOU between ESCD (formerly known as ICS) and the Public Affairs Section of the US Embassy in Cairo as a partnership agreement to foster mutual understanding and cultural enrichment and as an information outpost.

The American Corner is supported and supervised by the American Center of the U.S. Embassy in Egypt.

The American Corner provides opportunities for members of the Egyptian Community in Maadi and greater Cairo to enhance their knowledge of the United States and their understanding of American society, its culture and education through the numerous up to date resources and hands-on enrichment and training opportunities it provides and the variety of programs it offers to foster and establish mutual bridges of understanding between the United States and Egypt as the host country.

The main purpose of the Corner is to provide free and accurate information to the general public about the United States through up to date books, magazines, and digital libraries access. The Corner also hosts a wide variety of events: such as cultural and training programs and guest lectures from U.S. Embassy officials, Fulbright scholars, and others, film and video showings, cultural activities, Conversational Clubs, Readers Club, children's story hours, and many other activities.  American Corners are sponsored worldwide by the U.S. Department of State and are a partnership between the country's host institution (MPL ESCD) and the U.S. Embassy.

The American Corner holds 2,177 information resources and is digitally connected to:
